Top 5 Things to Know About PAAD in New Jersey
Lower the cost of your prescription drugs and make it easier for you to afford the medications you need.
If you’re Medicare eligible or someone with a disability living in New Jersey, you may have heard about the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled program– better known as PAAD. It’s a game-changer for those who qualify, helping with the cost of prescription drugs and more. Here are the top 5 things you need to know about PAAD and how it works with your healthcare plan.
-
PAAD Saves You Money on Prescriptions and More
PAAD lowers the cost of prescription drugs, making it easier for you to afford the medications you need. In 2025, with PAAD, you’ll pay just $5 for each PAAD-covered generic drug prescription and $7 for each PAAD-covered brand-name drug prescription.
You could pay $0 for generic drugs if you have a Part D Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with a drug plan included that has a lower copay.
PAAD could even pay your Medicare plan’s Part D monthly premium!
PAAD provides prescription savings and may also connect eligible individuals to additional benefits like Lifeline Utility Assistance, which helps with heating and utility costs. Depending on income, individuals may qualify for either PAAD or Senior Gold. Senior Gold offers prescription cost reductions for those with slightly higher incomes than PAAD, with a different co-payment structure.

It’s Available to Many New Jersey Residents
To qualify for PAAD you must:
- Be a resident of New Jersey
- Be 65 years or older, or between 18-64 and receiving Social Security Title II Disability benefit
- Not eligible for Medicaid
- Meet the 2025 income limit:
- $53,446 for single applicants
- $60,690 for married couple
- Be enrolled in a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage plan that includes Part D prescription drug coverage

PAAD Works With Medicare Plans
If you have Medicare, the good news is that PAAD works alongside your plan. It can help cover prescription drug costs that might otherwise be out of reach. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, like Clover Health, you’ll love how seamlessly it integrates with PAAD. Together, they help you get more value and support.
For example, PAAD will pay for prescribed legend drugs, insulin and insulin supplies, and needles and syringes for injectable medicines used to treat multiple sclerosis. Many Medicare Advantage plans, like those from Clover Health, include diabetic testing supplies in their plans.
